Always follow with moisturiser. Sunscreen the next morning matters even more than usual.

Do not use on the same night as retinol. Both speed up cell turnover; together they cause redness, flaking and barrier damage. Alternate nights instead.

How to read an ingredient list+
  • 01The order isn't random: ingredients are listed from most to least. The first three say most about what the product is — usually water (Aqua) comes first.
  • 02The rule stops at 1%. Ingredients under 1% may be listed in any order. That line usually sits around the preservatives and thickeners (phenoxyethanol, carbomer, xanthan gum).
  • 03If the hero ingredient on the front of the pack sits at the very bottom next to the preservatives, there probably isn't enough of it to do anything. The industry calls this "pixie dusting".
  • 04Being far down the list isn't bad in itself: most actives are used at low percentages. It only means there's a small amount.
  • 05If you have an allergy, search for the INCI name; marketing names change between countries, INCI names don't.
